Stacking Your Dog

Handling a dog in the ring can be a daunting experience. It can be fun for some, scary for most. Like all things, practice makes perfect. My training techniques and methods are designed to instill confidence in both the handler and their dog. I recommend you work with your dog for short periods, about 10 minutes a day will develop a good training routine.
I like to start by teaching the handler how to stack their fog by standing on the animals right side
then moving the show collar around to the top of the animals neck
This will enable you to have better control as you go about positioning the dog
Next hold the lead in your right hand
slide your left hand down to the dogs left elbow
Line the elbow up with the back of the shoulder blades, making sure the toes are pointing straight ahead
Switch the lead to your left hand
Slide your right hand down to the right elbow and line up with the back of the shoulder blades with the toes pointed forward
Your dogs front legs would now be parallel with each other
Place the lead back to your right hand
Now start at the back leg
Move the left back leg by placing your left hand around the hock and lifting it firmly
Then place and set the leg perpendicular with the ground
Repeat this procedure with the right leg
Keeping the lead in the right hand adjust the collar under the jaw
Gently, but firmly lift up on the dogs neck and give the command "STAND"
Remember at all times be aware of the judges presence
Stack your dog in less than 20 seconds, always present the dogs best qualities, and most of all have fun!
